About

Lupus Modified was established in 2022 in loving memory of Abbey Leigh Collins.

Abbey, a passionate car enthusiast from Scarborough, had a special love for PD engines, especially her cherished Bora, which she affectionately called Silber. For her, that car wasn’t just a machine—it was her pride, her passion, and her escape like many other car enthusiasts.

But Abbey also battled Lupus, a disease that often kept her from doing the things she loved, like attending car events. Yet, whenever she could muster the strength, she made it to her favourites—Modified Nationals and Ultimate Street Car.

One of Abbey’s most cherished gatherings was the annual Scarborough meet, which not only united car enthusiasts but also brought much-needed economic support to small local businesses. Sadly, the actions of one individual led to the event being banned by the local council—a heart-breaking loss for Abbey.

Even in her final days in hospice, Abbey never stopped dreaming. She envisioned more modified cars sporting lupus awareness stickers, spreading the word about this often-overlooked illness. She dreamt of a meet in Scarborough once again and organizing an event where the proceeds could go to Lupus UK This is one of our future goals.

That’s when we set out to make her dream a reality.

Our Story

We began by raising awareness through car photoshoots and video shoots—combining her love of cars with her desire to shed light on Lupus. Our first major breakthrough was the smoke grenade photoshoot at Oliver’s Mount, a significant location in Scarborough, marking the first modified car gathering there since the ban.

It felt like a dream come true, or so we thought.

It felt like a dream come true, or so we thought.

While the event logistics were flawless, and the video we created gathered over 15,000 views in just 24 hours, we faced disappointment when it came to the turn out in cars a tough lesson learned.

But then something incredible happened. The local car community—people like you—heard about the event and showed up. What started as a setback transformed into a powerful display of unity. It wasn’t about having the best cars on display; it was about the incredible spirit of the community that made the day truly special.

Through this experience, we earned the trust of Oliver’s Mount and were given the chance to continue as long as we had council permission, a safe haven for car enthusiasts in Scarborough. We hope to one day gain the trust of North Yorkshire Council and bring an annual event to Scarborough.

From there, we knew we needed the right partners—the right car clubs that understood the damage – reckless “takeover” meets were doing to the car community. In 2023, we focused on building something real, and today, you are proof of that.

Now we’ve made a statement.

We’ve shown what’s possible when passion meets purpose. From gathering show-quality cars to raising awareness for Lupus, to proving that the car enthusiast community can unite for a meaningful cause and embrace tools like Operation Snap at their meets, we’ve made it clear: this is a movement built on respect, safety, and impact.

With over 3,000 attendees at a single event, we’ve demonstrated how our efforts can raise vital funds for Lupus UK while hosting gatherings that local communities can be proud of. But this is just the beginning.

The Road Ahead

We’re expanding beyond East Riding of Yorkshire, partnering with even more respected car clubs and collaborating with aspiring student photographers to grow their portfolios while spreading awareness. Our mission is to see Lupus awareness stickers on as many cars as possible, each one driving the message further.

With Abbey’s legacy at the heart of our work, our annual meets will continue to grow—bringing together car enthusiasts, fostering safe and responsible events, and making a difference in the fight against Lupus with every pound raised.
